International Undergraduate Awards & Scholarships

Numerous opportunities exist for Duke undergraduate students to further their studies in an international setting.  Below are links to just a few of the unique experiences Duke students can take advantage of:

 The Office of Undergraduate Scholars and Fellows administers campus competitions for most of the distinguished postgraduate scholarships for foreign study (Luce, Marshall, Mitchell, Rhodes, Truman, and Winston Churchill) .

The Fulbright Program, the US Government's premier scholarship program, is administered through the Duke Center for International Studies, located in the John Hope Franklin Center. Contact Dr. Darla Deardorff for more information.

The Asian Pacific Studies Institute offers several grants for undergraduates:

1. The Scholarship for Duke Study in China Program (DSICP) 

2. The Scholarship for Study Abroad in Japan and Korea

3. The Internship / Research Project in East Asia

The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies offers Mellon Undergraduate Awards for Summer Research in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Latino/A Studies Program also offers some travel awards and undergraduate summer research opportunities

Through the university’s Hart Leadership Program, Duke seniors and recent alumni may apply to the Hart Fellows Program, which offers recent graduates ten month fellowships with international humanitarian organizations.

Center for International Studies Overseas Summer Research Awards afford opportunities for full-time Duke undergraduates to complement classwork with international research experience in a different social and cultural setting.

Pratt School of Engineering International Honors Program (IHP) builds upon existing strengths in international studies at Duke University; it uniquely combines at the undergraduate level: (1) excellence in engineering skills, (2) foreign language proficiency, (3) cultural proficiency, and (4) awareness of world trade and economics as well as international public policy and sociology issues.

The Engineering World Health Summer Institute is a unique program that gives undergraduate students the opportunity to answer the medical equipment needs of underserved communities by learning to refurbish donated medical equipment and installing that equipment in third world hospitals in Nicaragua, El Salvador or Tanzania.
